He was induced to sit for F.A. examinations , and also passed second Grade pleader-ship in Bellary Started practice as a second Grade pleader in Bellary Cantonment Magisrate’s court and became First Grade pleader in 1877 and for two decades was a leading member of the Bar. Almost appeared against his compeer, MR.K. Venkat Rao. Inclined towards drams – started writing plays. Fair in complexion- puny in stature – Bright in intellect. In 1886, he started “ sarasavinodini sabha”, gathered round him great actors like Kurnool Ramachandra Rao, Badanahatti Madhav Rao and other. He himself took the leading roles like Bahuka and Dasharatha which shot him to fame. Publick flocked to see his plays in Madras, Hyderabad and other places and he was presented with Gold Medals by Prime Minister of Hyderabad, the Maharajas of Bobbili, pithapuram, Bhadrachalam. In1891, a title “Andra Nataka Pithamaha” was conferred on him. He wrote more than thirty plays, many of which were characterized by their passionate ardor, poetic fancy, amazing practicality, the dazzling succession with irony, pathos, tenderness, the most brilliant world pictures, coolest arguments. His two brothers viz., D. Venkata krishnamacharyulu and D. Gopala charyulu were lawyers and actors, too. On 31.1.1912, Sri D. krishnamacharyulu had gone to Alur to conduct a case before the magistrate Sri Padmala Sreeramulu, there he stumbled at the threshold, fell down and died in the lap of Mr. Sreeramulu, who was then the only person present there. The irony was that in the “ paduka pattabhishekam” drama written by him, Mr. charyulu was always playing Dasharatha and Mr. sreeramulu was acting as Sri Rama and Dasharatha, when he swooned would fall into the lap of Sri Rama. The scene on that day seemed to echo this. Later, his body was brought to Bellary and a Memorial in the form of a temple has been built. His life-size statue is also installed and a  school is being run in the property, which is a Trust.
