Satyavant venkatesh malebennur was born in 1895 at Mudhol. He became a direct disciple of Sri. Balagangadhar Tilak. Immediately after his graduation in science in the year 1919, he joined the National Liberation Struggle, and he was interned in Yerrawada Jail from 1919 to 1922. During this period, Gandhiji was shifted to Yerrawada jail and both of them became cell-mates. Young Satyavant Rao by that time had written a booklet “ Ethics of window Marriage “. Immediately after his release, he associated himself with the then congress leaders like R.R.Divakar,D.P.Karmakar, Hukkerikar and various other stalwarts. Since even political detenues were barred from appearing for the Bombay Bar Council examinations, he came to Madras, did his law and apprenticeship, enrolled himself as a District pleader and came to Bellary. Being so advised, he joined the office of Late Beldona Bheema Rao, being a congressman. He married a child window, who had studied for 14 years at Banaras. Thereafter he started a women’s circulating libaray, a harijan Girl’s hostel and in 1936 he commissioned a harijan Boy’s hostel. Before his retirement from the profession, he started working out his own idea of “ Swadharma Ashram” to render food and shelter to all persons having their own ideas and ideologies in regard to the well being of the society. He wrote three dramas, justice hanged, Topsy turvey society, samyayogi Balakruishna, in kannada, which was staged.
