Ugra Narasimha
This is the largest of all idols in Hampi and is about 22ft tall and is carved of a single stone. The idol is said to be built by a Brahmin in 1528 during the Krishna Devaraya period. The idol is also called Ugra Narasimha. Behind the idol is a huge headed snake .

Matunga Hill
Opposite of the Virupaksha temple one see a wide street about a kilometre long in front is the Mathanga mountain. Near that you can find a beautiful two storied mantapa comprising of carved dandu kambas made of black storng dated to chalukyas. Near the mantapa is a gigantic Nandi idol opposite to Virupaksha temple called “Eduru Basavanna” means Basava facing Shiva.

Manasa Sarovara
It is known that Lord Rama stayed in vanavas in Karvi for 12 years and then went to Nasik for 6 months where in Sri Lakshman cut off the nose of surpanaka the demon.
With the abuction of Sita Ram and Lakshman came to bagalkot and asked savari(low cast people) about the weare abouts of Sita who in turn asked them to go to pampapur . and from pampapur a little bit further Lord Rama meets Lord Hanuman and Sugreeva
Malvavanth phatiksila Ragunath mandir where in Lord Rama did thapasya for 4 months and is considered sacred land beside which is madhuvana.

Mahanavami Dibba
It is a large podium about 22ft height and about 80 feet wide. It is said that Krishna Devaraya built this as a mark of his victory. This also contains a series of stone carvings as on Hazararama temple. It is said that this used to be the stage for many occasions.
By the side of the dibba there is an underground chamber used by the kings to hold secret meetings also known as the secret chamber.

Lotus Mahal
To the north of mahanavami dibba a fort in the shape of lotus is seen and so known as the Lotus mahal. This building is a mixture of hindu and muslim architecture. It is a two storied building built of motar. It is built in such a way that it will be very cool hear even in the hot summer. There is even a facility for hanging curtains at the windows

Kings Balance
From the purandra mantapa walking towards the east one can find two huge vertical pillers with one more fixed horizontally on them. It looks like a frame work of a huge door.
This is known as the royal balance used on main festivals. It is said that the king used ti sit on one side and precious stones jems amd gold was filled on the other side. And all these was given away in charity to the poor people. How ever there is no evidence to support this belief.

Virupaksha Temple
The tower of the main entrance of virupaksha temple is 165ft tall and 150 ft wide and 120 ft long and have eleven stories . It is popular by the name bistappa gopura . it is known to be repaired during the Krishna devaraya period . as you enter the temple premises one can find the symbol of Krishna devaraya period on the right wall of the entrance. There are rest houses to stay for people who come from far off places. Besides this there is a big school . On the right side there is a pooja mantapa also known as kalyana mantapa. There is a well to provide water to piligrims.
There are two parakaras to the virupaksha temple. From the first parkara to the west one can see one more tower called Raya tower which was built to commemorate the cornation of Krishna Devaraya.
Virupaksha is also called pampathi which is also the oldest of all the temples in hampi. The doors of the temple are beautifully carved . This is a very old temple belonging to the hoysala period. In 1509-10 during the time of his coronation Sri Krishna devaraya built the ranga mantapa.
Legendry story
Sri Virupaksha is also called Pampathi. It is said that Pampa devi did thapas in this holy place concentrating on Shiva. Lord Shiva appeared before her and took the shape of shiva lingam promosing to stay there for ever. That idol of Shivalingam is Virupaksha. The holy place is called pampakshetra.
As one enters the temple from the river at the back side there are steps and at the fourth step to the right is a room where in through a small hole through which light passes one can find the inverted image of bistappa tower

Hazara Rama Temple
The Hazararama temple is the only temple situated in the coreof the royal zone between the residential and ceremonial enclosures. It was built by Krishna devaraya in 1513 to commemorate a victory. Dedicated to Vishnu in his aspect of lord Rama this 15th century temple is a finest example of a compact Dravida Vimana type of temple.the temple has an entrance to the north and the south.
The temple is known for its sculpted material describing the Ramayana in three tiers running all round the temple.it is because of this the temple is known as Hazararama temple. It even has narrative sculptures of Bhagavata especially of bala Krishna.

Bengal Gram Ganapathi
Hear this Ganapathi is called Kadlekalu(Bengal gram ganapathi) the idol is 18 feet tall and carved of a single stone before it is the dancing hall built by many pillers.
